Tips for Dating Online

In honor of the holiday, I've decided to share some tips with those of you who are dating online or are dating while online, inspired by some recent events:

1. Networking services have become a popular way to date. It takes all of the scariness out of online dating because this person isn't an online stranger, no! S/he's the friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend's friend. Plus, there's no nervous "will s/he be attractive?" factor. But beware: although your friends have the good sense not to date your significant or ex-significant others, your friends-of-friends do not. Given that you run in the same circles and share the same friends, this is bound to create much awkwardness.
2. When writing your profile, don't mention your negative attributes such as how you take herbs for weight loss or how you adopted out your twin daughters. Be positive and say good things about yourself.
3. If you're going to blog about your life in explicit detail, be sure to have the good sense not to tell your significant other that you're going out of town, actually spend the weekend in town with someone else, and then blog about it before actually telling your significant other. There are more mature ways to say "it's over."
